Friendship as a relationship emphasizes commonalities. It emphasizes affinity, similarity, and a kindred spirit. It brings people together as part of the same social world – spatially, and perhaps more importantly, in their minds. Especially in uncertain times, this motion provides a hopeful draft and wonderful guide to action.
The artists in this group exhibition draw our attention to the relationships
we form in everyday life: with neighbours, members of sports clubs and music bands, work colleagues, schoolmates and family members. They explore friendship as a source of strength, creativity, and empathy, but also of tension and compromise. The expression is often playful and humorous, while existential questions remain at the center – questions about what defines us as human beings and what connects us to a wider social network. In collaboration with the artists, we establish spaces for visitors to question, experience and enjoy friendship.
The exhibition is curated by Marlène Harles.
The exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Municipalities, Building, Housing and Culture, Rhineland-Palatinate.
